Zippity Zap Fruit is a playful, research-informed visual discrimination game designed to strengthen essential pre-reading and language skills through matching picture and word cards illustrating different types of fruit.

The main focus is on learning to read through picture associations and developing vocabulary — two critically important pre-reading skills for eventual reading comprehension.

How to play

Game 1
1Shuffle the cards and hand out the two sets (picture and word cards) evenly among players. Each player tries to form as many matching sets as possible by pairing picture cards with their corresponding word cards. The cards displaying both the picture and word serve as answer cards and can be used to check whether the matches are correct. The player with the most sets wins.
Game 2
1"Snap" is a simple, fun card game that's perfect for vocabulary practice.
2Shuffle the two sets of cards. Hand the picture card set (32 picture cards) to one player and the word card set (32 word cards) to the other.
3Each player keeps their cards face down in a pile in front of them.
4Players take turns placing their top card face up in the center of the table.
5When two matching cards appear, players race to be the first to shout "SNAP!" and slap their hand on the pile.
6The player who shouts "SNAP!" first wins all the cards in the center pile and adds them to the bottom of their stack.
7If a player wrongly shouts "SNAP!" when the cards don't match, they must give one card to each other player.
8The game continues until one player has all the cards or a set time limit is reached.
9A player can play individually as well. Place the picture cards in one pile (face turned down) and the word cards in another pile (also face downwards). Pick up one card from the picture pile and another card from the word card pile. Should there be a match, place them aside. Continue as you have been playing until all the cards from both piles are matched into pairs.
